Rahul Gandhi also questioned the government on the possible involvement of a foreign hand. The central government said that all possible angles were being looked into. During the meeting, leaders were informed that there are approximately 20,000 Indian nationals in Bangladesh
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi posed three key questions to Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in the Lok Sabha on the situation in Bangladesh. The Union Minister answered them. In the wake of violence in Bangladesh and Sheikh Hasina’s resignation as Prime Minister, the Narendra Modi government organized an all-party meeting. Rahul Gandhi raised questions in this meeting.
Does the government have a short-term and long-term strategy to deal with the diplomatic fallout in the wake of the power transition in Dhaka? Rahul asked. In response, Jaishankar replied that we are constantly monitoring the situation in Bangladesh and our actions will be taken accordingly.
Was the involvement of foreign powers behind the events that took place in Bangladesh a few weeks before Hasina’s resignation? Is Pakistan particularly involved? asked. The Union Minister said that we cannot come to an estimate in this matter and we are investigating. However, it has been found that a Pakistani diplomat is regularly changing his profile picture on social media to support Bangladesh’s concerns. This matter is being looked into.
Did New Delhi foresee the dramatic developments in Bangladesh? Rahul asked his third question. Jaishankar disclosed that India is observing the situation. Meanwhile, the Congress and other opposition parties have declared their full support to the Narendra Modi government in resolving the crisis in the neighboring country.
