Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who attended the 25th Kargil Vijay Divas program held in Dras sector of Ladakh, flagged down the opposition. An attempt was made to respond to the opposition criticizing the Agnipath scheme. The opposition leaders were accused of playing politics on the sensitive issue of national defense and security system.
“The Agnipath scheme is an example of the reforms needed in our security forces. There have been discussions and debates going on for decades that our security forces should always be filled with young blood and ready for war at any time.
It is a matter of concern that the average age of an Indian soldier is higher than the average age of the soldiers of other countries. Many committees have discussed this, but no government has taken proper steps. We have brought a solution to this problem through the Agnipath scheme. Through this scheme the Indian army will be overflowing with young blood… ready for war at all times.
But, unfortunately, some people are doing this for personal gain. All those who criticize like this are also involved in the scandals in the defense sector. These scandals have weakened our security forces.
These are the same people who never wanted the Indian Air Force to field advanced fighter jets. They are also the ones who thought that the domestic fighter jet Tejas project should be shelved.
Some untruths are spreading that the government has brought this Agnipath scheme to save money. I am only asking them… The issue of soldiers’ pension has come to the fore after 30 years. Why did we raise this issue? We can leave it to the next governments to take care of it! But we didn’t do that… because we have respect for the defense forces, we respect their decision. We did not consider this to be political, so we took this issue into consideration with sincerity. As far as we are concerned, the security of the country is the first priority,” Modi clarified.
